Trump Makes Announcement, First time in 82 years

Former President Trump recently stated that he plans to visit Fort Knox to verify the gold reserves are intact, referencing the facility’s historic status. Fort Knox, home to the U.S. gold reserves since 1937, has only been inspected by outsiders a few times. The last such inspection occurred in 1974, when journalists and a congressional delegation were allowed in, and a more recent visit occurred in 2017 with Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
The U.S. Mint reports that Fort Knox contains 147.3 million ounces of gold, worth around $435 billion. Despite rumors over the years, only small quantities of gold have been removed for audits. The depository, known for its high security, has never been fully opened to the public, and its exact security measures remain highly classified. Trump’s comments about a possible inspection have sparked renewed interest in the legendary site.
